Trail Etiquette
Hike Responsibly
Bangladesh's trails pass through fragile terrain and living communities. A few habits go a long way toward keeping them open and welcoming.
Leave No Trace
Carry out everything you carry in — including food scraps and biodegradable waste.
Stay on marked trails rather than cutting switchbacks or creating new paths.
Leave rocks, plants, and any historic or natural features exactly as you found them.
Use existing fire rings if a campfire is permitted, and never leave one unattended.
Respect Wildlife & Nature
Observe animals from a distance and never feed them.
Keep noise down, especially in forested or quieter sections of a trail.
Give other hikers' pets and any working animals space.
Respect Local Communities
Ask before photographing people in villages you pass through.
Dress modestly in local communities, particularly in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Support local guides and homestays where possible — it's often the best source of current trail knowledge.
Trail Courtesy
Yield to hikers heading uphill when the trail narrows.
Keep to single file on shared paths so others can pass.
Offer help to hikers who look lost or in difficulty — you might be the only person they see for hours.
